comida is used as in; What type of food do you like? [Sp] Que tipo de comida the gusta.

[Sp]Espero verlos el fin de semana para la comida que preparara mi suegra.
[Eng] I hope to see you in the weekend for the meal that my mother in law will prepare.

Word of the day--pan

Today is Tuesday 10th-- Hoy es Martes 10 (diez)

We'll talk about pan, [pan] means bread. Bread like sandwich bread. Sweat bread is call Pan Dulce, that's what families eat for merienda(a small meal between lunch and dinner)Think of it as a tea time, except that instead of cookies and tea, we'll have coffee or dark chocolate drink and pan dulce.

Word of the day.... WHY?


Word of the day.... WHY?

Why, you ask why. why is used as an interrogative or question.ie.


example:

[Sp]Por que compraste una revista? meaning [Eng]Why did you buy a magazine?


Also, Porque can be use in affirmative form. i.e

[Sp]Compro zapatos porque me gustan mucho.

[Eng]I buy shoes because I like them a lot.

[Sp]Llego temprano porque el dia empieza temprano.

[Eng]I come early because the day starts early.

Basically, Why { Por qué } can be used when asking someone why?

Why did you get this?, why did you show up late?, why do you like such a style? etc.

Also, Porque can be used in an affirmative way, i.e, such as in, I buy chocolate because I like it.
Ex.

I am late because I woke up late. ----- Estoy tarde porque me levante tarde

I'm packing because I'm traveling ---- Estoy empacando porque me voy de viaje.

Basically, Why -{ Por qué } can be used as in why and also as because.


The uses of Porqué, Porque, Por qué.
Porque is a very common word in Spanish, probably at some point in time we all had heard it. Here are three different uses of it, they vary on the spelling and meaning but they sound alike.

  • Por qué (2 words)
interrogative and declarative use, like in
(1)Por qué no has contestado?.
Why haven't you answered?
(2)Por qué no vas de vacaciones?
Why don't you go on vacation?
(3)Me gustaria saber
por qué llegaste tarde
I would like to know why did you arrive late?
(4)El queria saber
por qué no lo invitaste.
He wanted to know why you didn't invite him.

  • Porque (one word)
it's used to respond to a question,i.e.

Question -use Por qué (two words)
[Sp]Por qué no has contestado?.
[Eng]Why haven't you answered?

Answer -use
Porque (one word)
[Sp]Porque no se la respuesta.
[Eng] Because I don't know the answer.

  • The third use of Porque

Porque is also used as a noun, porque means the reason, the cause, the motive.

[Sp] Dime el porque de tu respuesta
[Eng]Tell me the reason for your answer.

[Sp]Nunca supe el porque del despido de tu amiga.
[Eng] I never knew the reason of the firing of your friend.

Notes
Fin is often used at the end of a Film or movie, Fin stands for End as in THE END.

So, Fin de semana, literally translates as end of the week.
